It would obviously help but it isn't essential.

Andre, I think you are right. If Facebook really had an issue with this guy they I am sure the first step would be a demand letter. This stuff is all theoretical for the purposes of this post really.

Re: A case of cybersquatting and Facebook

Tom, it isn't necessary for Facebook to register a trademark in SA to qualify for protection. I'm no legal expert but surely if Facebook have an issue with what he is doing they'd have to send him some kind of cease and desist request before going all legal on him?

Re: A case of cybersquatting and Facebook

hmmm, I hear you Paul, but then again - it looks like he is trying to put together something that offers actual value. Anybody has right to register any domain that is available. I heard that sex.com was sold for 2Million$ , very profitable cybersquating

Re: A case of cybersquatting and Facebook

Is facebook registered trademark in South Africa ? The use of the domain is still a bit of a sham. He must have noticed the chatter about his domain and put up the blog.

Re: A case of cybersquatting and Facebook

Hey Andre

All Chris has done is stave off a passing off action. Interesting that they don't expose their identity in the blog, not even links to their/his facebook profile - if they are such huge addicts I'd like to have a squiz at those profiles and history :-)

Re: A case of cybersquatting and Facebook

update, he/they've put up a kind of facebook fan blog in the last few hours.
