I think that the best way is to be multichannels and trying to connect to people in all the space where they have account . and the best is that other channels let you to be connected to people in linkedin at the end
for example, the first time that I was connected to you is through twitter, you have make the connection easy by promoting your blog which contains link to ziki, linkedin facebook etc so I was able to sent you request in all these spaces.
you can having connections in only one space ,other in some spaces and people in all spaces.
that raises for you opportunity to self-brand, self-promotion and participation ( and we shouldn't forget your blogs).
the value isn't in number of connection (no need to be connection's hunter) but in the quality of interaction and knowledge share. if I add connection I have to interact with him/her and share interests.
PS I have sent request to customer service and they replied to me :)

Let's be realistic, this is a social networking site for"big people". Your story is like many I've heard. While all of these contacts are nice they don't mean anything to your bottom line. Why would you pay to be able to directly contact someone who you don't really know? Services such as http://www.referralkey.com/ require that you invite real-world associates to your network however the result is a thriving network with qualified business leads being exchanged daily.
I'm a small business professional and I don't need to pay to message 500 strangers. I need qualified and timely referrals.

Hi Kristoff. Thinking about something like LinkedIn as a networking site for "big people" ignores the fact that many of those "big people" started off on the same plane as people like us. Their networks helped lift them to the higher realms they now occupy. Leaving that aside, I see my LinkedIn profile as being both another point of contact for people wanting to get in touch with me and as a further source of information about the work I do and the activities I am involved in. People can also get a good sense of the people I associate with and that may make a difference. I am less focussed on how many people I can contact (I can email a great many more people than I can message for free on LinkedIn) and more on the various ways people can contact me and find out more about me.

For me the value in LinkedIn comes in the form of an ongoing updated resume, especially with the testimonials. So this is the first things I send people before a meeting. The second thing I am doing from time to time is to do marketing research or competitive analysis for myself and/or clients through my 1700+ direct connections. When I post questions to my direction connections I get a very good response because of the numbers but also quality response because of the typical profile of the LinkedIn user vs. Facebook users. In the last 12 months I have removed my Twitter, MySpace and Orkut profiles to focus on LinkedIn for business and Facebook for pleasure reasons.
My next challenge is working with head hunters to show them how to bypass the traditional recruitment model using LinkedIn in South Africa. And this may the avenue for you to identify other attorneys to collaborate or partner with depending on the nature or complexity of your assignments. And I'm very happy to see you're connected to my friend Pria Chetty.
