Paul Jacobson: The Guy McLaren debacle

Don't worry about being sued - those are just idle threats. The fact is that you can voice your opinions about others and their offerings freely according to the South African constitution last time I checked. So we want to hear what you think. :)

If he does decide to sue you, get the best and most expensive lawyer you can. He will almost certainly loose the case and then you sue him for your legal fees. He ends up paying. So if he has any savvy left he will get some manners back.

Dude, I am an expensive lawyer and the problem with getting sued is that you never recover all your costs, even if you win. It is often better to just stay out of court if you can.

So you don't like my offering, so don't buy it. I don't like your thoughts and opinions but who actually gives a shit.

I wouldn't bother suing some onanist that disagrees with me, but the fuckers that defaced my client sites caused damage.

Guy, I actually had to look up that word "onanist". According to my dictionary it means "masturbation" or "coitus interruptus". Dude, you're a little obsessed with masturbation in your posts and comments.

As for not caring about my thoughts and opinions, that's ok. You are in good company. Plenty people don't really care what I have to say. Mostly I keep going to amuse myself.

It actually means wanker in that form, but then again why would someone that attacks a total stranger actually understand. I am glad I could educate you, if only a little. I would prefer to use the epithet fuckwit but find it upsets people.

Guy, one question - why is your business url "trafficdepartment.co.za" ? It screams of "spam"... sorry, I mean "scam"... because clearly your business has nothing to do with the traffic department and you're hijacking their name to increase Google click-through traffic.

My suggestion is to take the huge amount of advice that has been handed your way over the past week, whether you like it or not, and build on it - there's nothing better than constructive criticism. And as someone with over 10 years of industry experience I think you can appreciate that. Prove me wrong.

web traffic? Is that not also traffic? Thats the problem with the sheep. Can you not think out of the box. The road traffic department crossover is actually a pain in the arse because it seems people are stupid.

Good point there Coda. I wonder how much of Guy's traffic is from people looking for the actual traffic department? I certainly see a lot of traffic coming in to one of my other blogs because of a couple posts I wrote on traffic fines. That topic remains the single biggest traffic source. Calling his blog "traffic department" must have that in mind ...

I'm the unfortunate individual who had the misfortune of ever crossing paths with the "Guy Maclaren deal" and falling for it. It's beyond ridiculous and pathetic but I am dumbstruck to think that anyone can seriously get away with things to the extent to which he is doing so on a semi-reputable business networking site like My Genius. He's having a field day and seems he has no interest in taking stock of himself.

What I don't understand is how anyone intends to make money through him? By selling on his blogs? What does it matter where the blogs stand on Google? Who cares about the stuff he or his followers are writing about? Where does the big business or "food off his table" come into it? Somehow there just seems to be a lot of smoke but zero fire.

This blog article of yours, Paul, reminds me why I hold the opinion that reading your blog is an absolute waste of time.

You're popular on amatomu.com (rank is 8 at the time I am posting this). That means you have a lot of people who disagree with me.

    So be it.

I'm happy to be out of step with them.

Joy to them, if they want to read your drivel.

One other thing, to the people who spell 'lose' as 'loose', may I suggest you attend an elementary English class?

That is one misspelling that I find particularly irksome. I even see some illiterate journalists misspelling 'lose' as 'loose' on mainstream media web sites. I feel that that should be grounds for termination of a journalist's employment.

Richard, as I pointed out to someone else last week, correcting someone else's typo on the web is pretty pathetic. And for you to dedicate an entire comment to it, on a blog which you say you don't read but do anyway, well, that's just sad. I find that particularly irksome.

It's not a typo, Coda. Too many people think that 'lose' (as in 'to lose something') is spelt with a double o ('loose').

We don't "loose a wallet" we "lose a wallet". We let an animal loose, we let loose the dogs of war!

I was using it in the context of euphemism. "correcting poor spelling" then, if we're going to nitpick. Either way, still lame.
